June is a spoken word artist, poet, and composer who performs both internationally and locally In her home of Los Angeles. She is currently based in Iowa City where she will receive an MFA in creative writing in May 2008.


She has been heard on National Public Radio, published in National Lampoon Magazine,
the LA Weekly
, and in numerous anthologies, chapbooks and zines published both in the U.S. and abroad.

Her five European tours include sold-out performances in London, Munich, Hamburg, Amsterdam. She was the winner at Edinburgh National Poetry Day Children's Poetry Competition and headlined at the Bristol Int'l Poetry Festival.

She was the recipient of the 2003 City of Hamburg Cultural Affairs Department Artist's Grant and completed a one month artist-in-residency in Hamburg, Germany.


Notable performances in the U.S. since 2000 include the UCLA Hammer Museum, Beyond Baroque in Venice, CA; The Seattle Bumbershoot Arts Festival; Seattle Poetry Festival; and in New York City: the Nuyorican, The Knitting Factory, and CBGB's.

In 2002 she released a full-length studio recording of spoken word and original music with her band, "June Melby and Her Future Enemies."

She has made her living as an actress and was the voice of the alien "Bang" in the Warner Brothers movie "Space Jam", starring Michael Jordan.

It Is true that June was raised on a miniature golf course in the Midwest that her parents owned for thirty years.
